Fruit and Vegetable Consumption in Spanish Households Drops by 1% in the First Half of 2018

According to data published by the Food Consumption Panel of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, fruit and vegetable consumption in Spanish households decreased by 1% in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period in 2017, with a total of 3.784 billion kilos consumed.
This figure contrasts with a 2% increase in spending on fruits and vegetables during the same period compared to the previous year.
The products that recorded a decline in consumption were fruits in general and potatoes, whereas vegetable consumption increased. Specifically, household consumption of oranges, apples, melons, kiwis, peaches, watermelons, and apricots decreased, while mandarins, bananas, pears, and strawberries saw an increase.
Looking more closely at expenditure, spending increased for both fruits and vegetables, while potato spending declined.
